A famous PA-1 pulls the Laurentian in the Adirondacks. The state of NY gave passenger service between NYC and Montreal financial support in the early 1970's after the route was not included in the original Amtrak network. The Delaware and Hudson RR acquired some former ATSF Alco PA1 passenger locomotives and they were rebuilt by Morrison Knudsen, repainted and placed into service on the new Montreal service. Here, Howard Fogg depicts a single PA1 leading the newly refurbished Laurentian in the Adirondacks of Northern NY state. This service lasted for several years until Amtrak was contracted to run this service and the PA1 units and D&H passenger equipment retired.
May the memories of the D&H PA1's passenger trains of the past, bringing holiday travelers home, rekindle your memories of holiday travel and Christmases past, and bring to you and yours a Wonderful Holiday Season and a Prosperous and Healthy Year to come.
